Search Haysi Criminal Records

Haysi has two key record makers within town, yet they do not hold the same file. Town police create incident and arrest reports, while the regional jail creates booking and custody records. Anyone seeking to check criminal history in Haysi must then follow a filed charge to Dickenson County courts in Clintwood. A Haysi criminal record search should separate those sources, confirm the agency behind each entry, and use statewide systems only for the layer they actually cover. That approach avoids mistaking a jail fact for a court outcome or a state locator for a fresh local booking list.

How to Check Criminal History in Haysi

There is no official Haysi portal that combines police reports, current jail status, court cases, and Virginia repository history. Start with the question. A recent event points to Haysi Police. Present custody points to Haysi Regional Jail. Filed charges and outcomes point to Dickenson General District or Circuit Court. A statewide self-review points to Virginia State Police.

Follow this five-step Haysi route:

  1. Call Haysi Police for the report custodian and give the incident number, date, location, and record type.
  2. Contact Haysi Regional Jail separately when booking, release, or current custody is the issue.
  3. Search Dickenson General District Court by name, case number, or hearing date for a filed town case.
  4. Follow an indicted felony or appeal to Dickenson Circuit Court and request the exact public order from its clerk.
  5. Use VSP SP-167 when a mailed Virginia repository report, rather than a local event record, is required.

Keep each Haysi custodian response labeled. Haysi police, jail, and court records can describe the same episode from different stages.

Haysi Criminal Records Need Three Stops

Haysi presents a rare same-town, different-custodian problem. The Police Department documents the event and arrest. The Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority documents intake, housing, bond or hold, transfer, and release. Court clerks in Clintwood document charges as filed, hearing events, pleas, dispositions, and sentences. Neither Haysi office can certify the clerk's final court order.

Ask for the record by its precise type. A request for a “full Haysi history” is too broad and may sweep in protected data. Instead, seek the named police report from the town, the releasable booking entry from the regional authority, and the docket or disposition from the correct court. Those records form a more reliable sequence.

The Haysi distinction also controls where a written request goes. Address a police request to Haysi Police and confirm whether the department will accept it by mail or fax. Address a booking-record request to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority through the channel its staff confirms. The official sources do not publish one shared form, a common fee, or a single records email for both offices. If both documents are needed, describe each existing record in a separate request and ask each Haysi custodian for a cost estimate. The jail may withhold classification, medical, security, or other confidential details even when it can confirm releasable intake or release facts. Haysi Police may separately redact victim, juvenile, personal-identifier, or active-investigation material. Asking each office for segregable public portions preserves the useful parts without treating either Haysi agency as the other's records desk.

Note: The regional jail's Haysi address does not make every person held there a Haysi or Dickenson County arrest.

The Haysi Police Department

Haysi Police lists P.O. Box 278, Haysi, VA 24256, phone (276) 865-5187, and fax (276) 865-9808. No official records portal, email, app, online form, blotter, posted fee, or public-counter hours were verified. Call first and ask who serves as records custodian, how a written request is accepted, and whether copies can be sent electronically.

Include the incident number when known, along with the date, time, location, report type, and preferred format. Ask before sending identity documents by fax because the directory does not say they are routinely required. It also does not promise same-day access. A narrow request for an existing police report is easier to route than a demand for everything about a named person.

When Haysi Police did not make the arrest, use the agency named on the summons, property receipt, or court entry. A state trooper or deputy creates a record with that officer's agency even when the event occurred inside Haysi.

Haysi Criminal Booking Hub

Haysi Regional Jail stands at 1550 Kiwanis Park, Haysi, VA 24256, with mailing address P.O. Box 425 and phone (276) 679-7880. It is operated by the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority, not by Haysi Police or the Dickenson Sheriff. No official public inmate-profile interface was confirmed during research.

Call with a full name and approximate booking date. Ask whether the person is presently at Haysi, whether a transfer occurred, what releasable booking identifier exists, and which authority receives a written request. The facility can answer custody questions but does not provide the town officer's narrative or the court's final disposition.

The 2025 PREA audit reports those facility-wide figures. They are not current roster totals, town arrest counts, or evidence about crime in Haysi.

Arrests and Bookings in Haysi

A Haysi arrest can create at least four record layers. Police record the event and allegation. Jail staff verify identity and authority, inventory property, complete safety screening, and create booking material. A magistrate or judge addresses probable cause and release. Court clerks then record the prosecution. Fingerprint-supported information may later reach the Virginia State Police repository.

Timing differs across those layers. The jail may confirm custody before a case appears online. A court charge may later differ from the arrest-stage allegation. Release does not end a pending case, and a court search cannot prove present custody. Virginia sources do not support a universal 24-hour or 48-hour promise for every Haysi case.

The official Dickenson arrest record channels provide county-level detail when the arresting agency is uncertain.

When Haysi Has No Roster

When no official roster appears, phone verification is the local fallback. Call (276) 679-7880, provide careful date context, and ask for current custody or release information that can lawfully be given. If the person has moved into state-responsible custody, switch to the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator and heed its daily-update warning.

Do not treat VADOC as a Haysi booking search. The locator covers state prisoners, community supervisees, and certain VADOC-responsible people in local or regional jails. It does not reproduce every fresh regional intake record. Red Onion State Prison is also a VADOC institution, not another name for Haysi Regional Jail.

Likewise, the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator is limited to federal custody.

The Haysi federal locator image makes the boundary plain: a missing federal result says nothing about a Haysi regional booking or Haysi custody.

Haysi Municipal Court Records

Haysi has no verified separate municipal court portal. Town and traffic cases use Dickenson General District Court in Clintwood. The published Tuesday schedule places Town of Haysi and trooper traffic at 1:00 p.m., but general criminal and arraignment times can differ. Use the actual official entry or summons for a particular hearing.

Trace Haysi Criminal Cases

Begin a recent Haysi case search in General District Court. Select Dickenson, then use the legal name, known case number, or hearing date. Record the case number and exact court before calling. If the entry says the felony was certified to a grand jury, look for the Circuit stage rather than treating certification as a conviction.

The 1:00 p.m. town and trooper traffic block does not cover every criminal matter. Arraignments and cases attributed to deputies or other agencies have separate published blocks. That schedule shows why location alone cannot identify the record custodian or hearing time.

If language assistance is needed, contact the clerk early. Virginia Judiciary's interpreter program explains the official court channel.

Where Haysi Records End Up

Haysi Police retains its own incident and arrest narrative. The regional authority keeps the booking and custody file. Dickenson court clerks in Clintwood maintain the prosecution file. Fingerprint and disposition data for qualifying events flows through Virginia law-enforcement systems to the Virginia Department of State Police CCRE repository.

A VSP SP-167 report is a mailed, fee-based repository product. It is not a quick Haysi custody check. The reported processing time is about 15 business days after receipt. For an event today, use police, jail, and court channels first.

Keep Haysi Record Systems Apart

Local, state, and federal systems should never be blended. Haysi Police answers for a town report. Haysi Regional Jail answers for regional custody. VADOC answers for Virginia state custody and supervision. Federal cases and custody use a different court and prison network. Each absence has a narrow meaning.

PACER is the official account-based access system for federal dockets.

The Haysi PACER capture helps distinguish a federal docket from a Haysi police report or a Haysi-linked state case.

The Western District of Virginia is the federal trial court serving the area.

Haysi Criminal History Self-Review

Virginia SP-167 is the repository route for a public-use state criminal-history report. The subject and recipient sections require the signatures VSP specifies, notarization is part of the process, and the form is mailed with payment. VSP lists $15 for criminal history and $20 for a combined criminal-history and registry request. This is not an instant Haysi service.

For one's own federal identity history, the FBI uses fingerprints and charges an $18 fee. The FBI electronic department-order portal starts that separate request.

The Haysi FBI image illustrates a subject-based federal product, not a shortcut around Haysi Police or Haysi-related court records.

If a Haysi-linked Virginia entry is wrong, start with Haysi Police when it created the record and obtain the certified Haysi-related disposition from the clerk. Preserve dates and identifiers.

Public Access Rules

A Haysi Police request and a jail-authority request must be submitted separately when both records are needed. VFOIA generally calls for a response path within five working days and can permit seven more working days through written notice. A response can be production, partial production, withholding with a legal basis, or an extension notice. Reasonable actual search and copy costs may apply.

Key Statutes:

Virginia Freedom of Information Act supplies the public-record request framework.

Virginia Code § 2.2-3706 permits specified law-enforcement record exclusions and redactions.

Virginia Code § 19.2-389 separately limits criminal-history dissemination.

Active investigative details, juvenile material, victim identifiers, medical data, and security information may be restricted. Ask for segregable public portions. The court clerk follows court-record rules rather than the ordinary executive-agency FOIA route.
